What Does Compatibility Mean in Islam?

The Prophet ﷺ gave us remarkably practical guidance on compatibility: "A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her deen. Seek the one with deen, may your hands be rubbed with dust." (Bukhari)

Deen First

Level of religiosity is the most important compatibility factor in Islam. Two people who share the same relationship with Allah, the same commitment to prayer, and the same vision of an Islamic household will navigate every other difference with greater ease.

Kafaa'ah — Suitability

Islamic jurisprudence has a concept called kafaa'ah — suitability or equivalence between spouses. Scholars differ on exactly what it encompasses, but most agree it includes deen, character, and social compatibility.

Values Over Feelings

Feelings change. Values don't — or they change slowly and together when two people grow. Prioritise finding someone whose values align with yours over someone who gives you butterflies in a brief encounter.

How Haya Measures Compatibility

Our AI compatibility scoring looks at religiosity level, prayer practice, lifestyle preferences, family values, and long-term goals — not just superficial interests. The goal is to surface matches who are genuinely compatible where it counts.
